Architecture (Photographs - Alford Collection)

The date range for this series of photographs (1965 - 1975) was calculated by dating the buildings in the photographs of Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School, on the assumption that all the photographs in this series will likely have been taken at broadly the same time.

Plaque on Elizabeth Allen's School building

By the time this photograph was taken, the building was no longer being used for Elizabeth Allen's School — it had become the London Borough of Barnet Teachers Centre. The site of the building is on the corner of Wood Street and Hillside Gardens.

Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School with bus stop in front

The building directly behind was one of the first purpose-built for Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School: it was part of buildings that were started in 1895 and completed in 1909. This building was originally used as a hall and now still in use as the gymnasium. (Information provided by Vivienne Bell, QE Girls archivist.)

Dining room, Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School

The Dining Room on Meadway was built in 1953 and was demolished to make way for the present building that incorporates another dining area, car park, and teaching block. (Information provided by Vivienne Bell, QE Girls archivist.)

Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School

The High Street building (opposite Bedford Avenue) which was built in 1927 and replaced Russell House and Ashley House which were the first buildings of the school in 1888. (Information provided by Vivienne Bell, QE Girls archivist.)
